kATE.MADE adopts a number of initiatives to ensure our studio operates in a sustainable manner:
The first is to support local businesses, but buy products which are not only recycled and manufactured with the environment in mind, but are also manufactured in Australia.
The second is through the collection of all silver scrap (anything that is usually discarded during the process of jewellery making - these may include emery paper, off-cut pieces of metal, silver filings). The collection of this silver is then sent off to be ‘refined’ (whereby the scrap is melted down and then refined back to fine metal).
We produce only in small quantities and focus on made to order pieces, whereby reducing the unnecessary use of precious metals.
“We strive to expand on these practices in our everyday work, and look forward to exploring more sustainable initiatives now and in the future.” — Kate Phillips, Creative Director
